My grandmother, Bennie Callis, was an avid researcher of her genealogy, which eventually got me hooked after going through the books and documents she had. I slowly took home book by book to add to my collection while I was compiling what she had gathered and also starting my own research to try and find what she had not.
Not many young people take an interest in their genealogy, and all of my older distant relatives that I get in touch which are always so thrilled to hear of a younger generation taking up the family history. It is so interesting to me to know about people who lived in the past.
While I have been doing this for a few years now I still consider myself a lower intermediate when it come to genealogy research because there is still so much to learn!
