Biography

Harry was born on 25 Apr 1868 at 9 York Mews South, Marylebone to William Calver, Ostler & Selina nee Drew. She registered his birth on 1 June, she could not write. By 1881 his mother had moved in with John Taylor, cab proprietor at 15 Northumberland Mews, Marylebone & he & his brothers were recorded as John’s sons. On 22 Apr 1888 he marries Mary Ann Fletcher at St John the Baptist, Islington. Both were living in Baxter Road, he at 8, she at 15. His occupation was a butcher. When his first child is born on 12 Aug 1888 they had moved to 4 Milton Road Hornsey. In 1891 & 1901 the family were at 68 Howard Road Stoke Newington. His wife Mary Ann dies on 19 Apr 1907. Together they had the following children Minnie Rose 1888-1981, Emily [Em] Miriam 1891-1972, Louisa [Lulu] 1893-1991, May Gertrude 1896-1985, Venus [Vene] Selina 1897-1961, Violet [Vi] Lillian 1899-1960, Florence [Florrie] Maud 1901-1985, Henry [Harry] Robert Leonard 1903-1985 & Adelaide [Addy] 1905-2005. He then marries Elizabeth lilly Rice on 7 Oct 1909 at St Pauls Canonbury & they have a child 1910-1989. By 1911 the family are in a 5 roomed house 122 Winston Road Soke Newington & he is now a butcher’s manager. It is thought he met Elizabeth in the butchers shop where he worked. In 1918 he is at 4 spencer Road & 1939 65 Bayston road. He dies there on 22 Feb 1940 leaving £2,400 [about £100,00 in 2017 values] to his widow Elizabeth.
