Biography

Birth Sarah was born 3 June 1789.

Marriage Sarah marries George William Hallmark (abt.1778-1852) around 1800 in Tennessee. The marriage produced 11 children with nine named in his will:[1][2]

Migration to Mississippi Territory George, Sarah and their family continued migrating, moving from Knox County, to Rhea County, Tennessee before moving south along the Tennessee River to settle in Madison County, Mississippi Territory (now Madison County, Alabama).[4]

1809 Census In January, 1809 Sarah, George and family are living in Madison County, Mississippi Territory (now Madison County, Alabama). The household is contains nine people:

Category Age Number Possible Names
Free White Males Under 21 3 William, George, ?
Free White Males Over 21 1 George
White Females Under 21 4 Mary, Leannah, ?, ?
White Females Over 21 2 Sarah, ?
Slaves 0
[5]
Discussion: Four Hallmark families are listed on the 1809 Mississippi Territory census. George Sr. and his sons; George Jr, (Sara's usband and the next entry in the census after George Sr.), Richard, and William are all heads of households so much of the family lived in Madison County. George and Sarah's household has one male over 21 so this is clearly George but there are two females over 21 and more children than expected. Sarah as well as another adult female, possibly a sister of George or Sarah's and her children are living in George's household. People in the Names catagory are speculative and is a work in progress.

Death She passed away before 1828 in Blount County, Alabama. No records of Sarah's death or burial are known. Her husband, George remarries on 8 April 1828. Her last child was born in 1823. It's likely she passed away around 1827.[6]

Royal Ancestors It is through Sarah Calvert and her ancestors that all of her descendants can find a connection to the Plantagenet Royal Family of England and France. The connection is at Edward III King of England, he is the 15th great grandfather of Sarah. Click here Plantagenet-70

Research Note

Birth On 5 March 2021 there is no source for Sarah's birth date or place. On the 1870 Census her son, Matthew Dewey Thomas Hallmark (abt.1823-1906) lists her birthplace as Virginia. Parents birth place listings in the census are sometime erroneous but more research is needed to detemine her birthplace and date.[7]
