MARRIAGE. 25 Aug 1937, St. Barnabas' Church, South Arm, Tasmania, Australia

MARRIAGE. 25 Aug 1937, Royden Victor McDermott, son of Frederick William McDermott & Harriett Ann (Edwards) McDermott

MARRIAGE NOTICE. MCDERMOTT—CALVERT.—On August 25, 1937, at St. Barnabas' Church, South Arm, by the Rev. H. C. Brammall, Lola Doris, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Calvert, Seacroft, South Arm, to Royden Victor, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred. McDermott, Sorell.

WEDDING REPORT. McDermott—Calvert. St. Barnabas' Church, South Arm, was the scene of a very pretty wedding when Lola Doris, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Calvert, Sea Croft, South Arm, was married recently to Roy Victor, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. McDermott, of Sorell. Rev. H. C. Brammall officiated. The organist was Mrs. A. Hurd, and during the signing of the registrar she rendered the solo "My Prayer." The church had been prettily decorated with a profusion of Spring flowers by relatives and friends of the bride. Mr. Calvert gave away his daughter, whose bridal robe was of ivory French brocaded velvet made with a shirred neckline and long full sleeves. The close-fitting skirt flared at the hemline into a sweeping train. Her lovely veil of Honiton lace was held in place by a cluster of white gardenias; her bouquet was of hyacinths and heather. The sole bridesmaid was Miss Nancy Calvert (sister of the bride) whose frock of Coronation blue taffeta was cut with a very full skirt and topped with a smart matching jacket; she wore a fancy straw toque to match her frock and carried a bouquet of heather and peach blossom. Mr. Alma Calvert (brother of the bride) was best man and the usher was Mr. Brian Calvert (cousin). Owing to ill-health the bride's mother was unable to attend the wedding, but an aunt of the bride, Mrs. E. F. Calvert, of Launceston, received approximately 90 guests at the Calverton Hall, where the reception was held. The tables were beautifully decorated with peach blossom. To receive her guests the hostess wore a dark blue costume with a smart blue straw hat, and carried a posy of wallflowers. The bridegroom's mother chose a navy blue ensemble and a navy hat, and held a charming bouquet of pink hyacinths. When the happy couple left for their honeymoon, which was spent touring the State, the bride wore a mist frock beneath a Peschaniki fur coat. Her smart rolled brimmed toque was of black straw.
