He was 81 years of age, and for all but four years of his life, he lived on his home place, a part of the donation claim of his father, Mark Calvert, pioneer of the Oregon country. He was born August 13, 1854, near Cottage Grove. At the age of 21, he married Amanda Packard*, who survives. Other survivors include four sons, Anda, John, Ross and Thomas, all of Junction City; seven daughters, Mrs. Stella Nesbitte of Springfield; Mrs. Rena Edmiston and Mrs. Roberta Baugh of Thurston, Mrs. Mae Jackson of Eugene, Mrs. Katie Buss of Junction City, Mrs. Evalena Davis of Shedd, and Dora Calvert at home; one brother, Thomas Calvert; twenty-eight grand children; and thirteen great grandchildren. Mr. Calvert was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge and the Christian church, and was one of the leaders in the Lane County Pioneer association. When a boy, he carried mail between Junction City and Eugene. He served as a fire insurance agent for 25 years. Always active in community affairs, Mr. Calvert served for 38 successive years as director of the Oak Grove school district. Last October he and his wife celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Calvert had been a subscriber to the Eugene Guard and Register-Guard since the founding of the former more than a half century ago. Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church in Junction City, Tuesday, March 10. Miller’s Funeral Home will be in charge.
