John Edward was born in 1902. He was the son of Anna and Arthur Selwyn Calvert [1]

He married Kathleen Victoria McQuoid in 1940 [2]

FALSE PRETENCES ADMITTED. Nine charges of obtaining small sums of money and credit, and also a number of cases of benzine by falsely representing that he was a traveller employed by various firms were admitted by John Edward Calvert, aged 23. Senior-Detective Hammond said accused had just completed a month's imprisonment for a similar offence. .He had obtained a motor-car on the hire-purchase system, and travelled up from Wellington to Auckland, obtaining repairs to his car, benzine, and small sums of money by representing that he was a commercial traveller. There was no chance of restitution being made. Accused was sentenced to two years' reformative detention on one charge, and discharged on the remainder[4]


AUCKLAND, This Day. At the Supreme Court Mr.' Justice Blair sentenced John Edward Calvert, aged 22, with previous convictions, to three years' hard labour for false pretences in obtaining possession of a motorcar. [5]


False Pretences. John Edward Calvert (Mr. Noble), who admitted attempting to obtain a motor car by a false pretence, was admitted to probation for two years. Calvert had previously appeared before his Honor, who had ordered him to be medically examined. The medical officer reported that Calvert was not mentally deficient.[6]


John Edward Calvert, aged 34, motor driver, obtaining goods by false pretences at Wanganui, ,12, months'. imprisonment, and declared an habitual criminal.[7]
