Biography

Reginald Henry was born on 29 March 1912 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the son of Levi Calvert and Ada Wilkinson. His date of birth was recorded on his death certificate.

On 17 October 1914 Reginald's father Levi Calvert died in Rio de Janeiro. Reginald was only 2 years of age at the time.

On 29 April 1915 Reggie, aged 3, his mother and several siblings arrived in Liverpool, England aboard Oronsa. They had embarked the ship in Rio de Janeiro. Their contact address in UK was c/- Mrs Jane Kerfoot of 407 Ashton Rd, Hathershaw, Oldham [Ada’s youngest sister]. ^[1]

In the 1921 census the Calvert family was living at 31 Albert St, Bardsley, Lancashire. Mother Ada was a widow aged 50. Siblings living at home were Olive G, aged 20, a boot shop assistant at Waterloo Co-Op Society, Waterloo; Arnold V, aged 18, and Wilfred A, aged 15, both mineral water makers at Cheetham Bros, Oldham; Evelyn D, aged 14, a reeler at Iris Cotton Mill, Oldham; Hazel May aged 11 and Edith Ivy aged 6. Reggie Henry, as named, was aged 9 years. ^[2]

Reginald H Calvert married Eva Ogden in 1935 at St. Paul's Church, Oldham, Lancashire. ^[3]

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
Eva Calvert was then living at 11 Camberwell Street, Oldham, Lancashire, the home of Elizabeth Ogden. Her date of birth was recorded as 2 July 1912. The record for their child remains closed at this time [2017]. ^[4]

Reginald Henry Calvert died on 9 June 1981 at 19 Meldrum St, Oldham, his home address, aged 69 years of a coronary thrombosis. His death certificate further recorded Reginald was a retired engineering fitter. He was born on 29 March 1912 in Brazil. The informant of his death was his married daughter, also of Oldham. ^[5]
