Biography

Edith Ivy was born on 10 October 1914 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the daughter of Levi Calvert and Ada Calvert formerly Wilkinson.

On 17 October 1914 her father Levi Calvert died in Rio de Janeiro.

On 29 April 1915 Edith, aged ½ [6 months], her mother Ada and several siblings arrived in Liverpool, England aboard Oronsa. They had embarked the ship in Rio de Janeiro. Their contact address in UK was c/- Mrs Jane Kerfoot of 407 Ashton Rd, Hathershaw, Oldham [Ada’s youngest sister]. [1]

In the 1921 census the Calvert family was living at 31 Albert St, Bardsley, Lancashire. Mother Ada was a widow aged 50. Siblings were Olive G, aged 20, a boot shop assistant at Waterloo Co-Op Society, Waterloo; Arnold V, aged 18, and Wilfred A, aged 15, both mineral water makers at Cheetham Bros, Oldham; Evelyn D, aged 14, a reeler at Iris Cotton Mill, Oldham; Hazel May aged 11 and Reggie Henry aged 9. Edith Ivy was aged 6 years. [2]

Edith Ivy Calvert married Sam Wild on 7 September 1934 at the Methodist Chapel, Millgate, Hollins, Oldham, Lancashire. Their marriage certificate recorded Sam was a bachelor aged 26 and an insurance agent. His father was named as George Wild, a foreman gardener. Edith was a spinster aged 19 and a domestic servant. Her father was named as Levi Calvert (deceased). At the time of their marriage Sam was residing at 7 Houghton Ave, Oldham and Edith at 1 Manor Rd, Oldham. Their witnesses were James Dean and Hazel M Calvert, Edith's sister. [3]

This couple had three children.

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Edith was living at 690 Oldham Road, Limehurst Rural District, Lancashire. Edith I, born 10 October 1914, was aged 25. The record for their child remains closed at this time [2020]. Also living with her was brother Arnold V Calvert. Born 22 May 1903, he was aged 36. Arnold was employed as an omnibus driver. [4]

Sam Wild died in 1969 aged 62 years. His date of birth was recorded as 11 October 1907. [5]

Edith Ivy Wild died in 1970 aged 55 years. Her date of birth was recorded as 10 October 1914.[6]
