Biography

James Cameron was born on 5 December 1747 and was baptised on 10 December 1747 at Cromdale and Inverallen, Inverness-shire. His parents were Donald Cameron (~1725 - ) and Katherine (Fyfe or Fife) Mackenzie (~1725 - ). It should be noted that when looking on ScotlandsPeople the Record is located under the County of Moray.[1][2]

James married Margaret Stewart or Stuart. Her name is recorded as Stewart on the marriage record but Stuart on their son Alexander's birth record. The couple married on 3 December 1781 at Perth, Perthshire.[3]

The couples son was Alexander Cameron (1768 - ~1841)[4].

Research Notes

This profile seems a little confused so further investigations are required.

Birth:
The profile originally had a birth date of 12 October 1747 with no location being given. Parents of Donald Cameron and Katherine (Fyfe or Fife) Mackenzie were also provided. It should also be noted than when looking at his mothers profile there is nothing to suggest where the "Fyfe or Fife" surname came from. Certainly from the Bio she was born MacKenzie so the LNAB is incorrect.

When searching ScotlandsPeople there is no James Cameron born/baptised on or around 12 October 1747 however there is an entry for a James Cameron with a date of 10/12/1747 which in an Americanised Date Format is 12 October however in Scotland this date is 10 December. The parents on this record are Donald Cameron and Katherine Mc Inzie. If this record is correct the birth date would be 5 December 1747 with a baptism date of 10 December 1747. It should be noted that on ScotlandsPeople this record can be found under the County of Moray.[1] [2]

Marriage:
The profile also indicates that James married a Margaret Stewart on 3 December 1781 in Perth, Perthshire. This would mean that James was 34 years old at the time of his marriage. However the child attached to the profile was born in 1768 which is when he would have been 22 years old. Although the Alexander Cameron born in 1768 was born to a James Cameron and Margaret Stewart these are very common names in Scotland. Is it likely the couple had a child some 13 years before they married? Unless of course they had an irregular marriage previously which for the most part were not recorded and then later solemnized their marriage in a church.

Source given with no further info:
Another source was given on this profile which has been reformated as an inline source to include a link attached to this paragraph for easy references. This source appears to be for a Robert Cameron born to Alexander Cameron and Jannet Grant could this possibly be the child of James' son Alexander and therefore a grandchild?[5]
