Isabella, known as Bel was born about 1796 in Invernes-shire, Scotland.[1]
She married Angus Cameron on the 18th June 1812 at Kilmallie, Inverness-shire, Scotland.[2] His occupation was farmer.
They had fourteen children born in Scotland, seven of whom emigrated to Australia. The Inverness Emigrant Index notes that the parents had died by the time five of their adult children migrated to Australia as assisted immigrants. Most of them settled in the Canberra, Queanbeyan and Gundagai districts. They were:
Ann, born 1818, settled in Queensland
John, born 1824
Samuel, born 1827
Angus, born 1830
Mary, born 1831
Sarah, born 1833
Margaret, born 1835
Allan, born 1836
In 1856 there were four unrelated Cameron families in the county - the "water Hole Camerons", the "Glebe Camerons", the "Ainslie Camerons" and the "Majura Camerons", the last one comprising four sons of Angus and Isabel.[3][4] In 1872 Allen, Angus, John and Samuel Cameron were farmers living in Canberra.
