Sir Donald Walter Cameron (of Lochiel) the 25th Chief of Clan Cameron was born on 4 November 1876. He was the son of Donald Cameron of Lochiel, 24th Chief of Clan Cameron and Lady Margaret Elizabeth Montagu Douglas Scott.
He held the position of 25th Chief of Clan Cameron on 30 November 1905.1
Donald was educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London, England. He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.
Donald fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, and was severely wounded at the Battle of Belmont. He gained the rank of Captain in 1903 in the service of the Grenadier Guards. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) in 1906.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) between 1907 and 1933.1 He was commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders between 1912 and 1914. He fought in the First World War, serving in France, and was mentioned in despatches. Between 1914 and 1916 commanding officer. He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1916. He was commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders between 1918 and 1919. He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1920 and 1936. He held the office of Convenor of Inverness County Council between 1933 and 1951. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Thistle (K.T.) in 1934. He was recognised by the Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Office on 3 December 1934. He gained the rank of Honorary Colonel in the service of the 5th Battalion, Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George VI between 1936 and 1943. He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Inverness-shire in 1939. He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1948.
He died on 11 October 1951 at age 74.
Donald Cameron was married to Lady Hermione Emily Graham, daughter of Douglas Beresford Malise Ronald Graham (5th Duke of Montrose) and his wife Violet Hermione Graham, on 29 March 1906.
