Biography

Scottish flag
John (Cameron) Cameron IInd of Glendessary was born in Scotland.

Donald Cameron, 1st of Glendessary and unknown Campbell were the parents[1] of John Cameron, 2nd of Glendessary,[2] who was most likely born before his first wife, who was born in 1646, noting also that their child was born about 1660. The Red Books of Scotland list two wives:

  1. Janet Maclean of Kinlochaline/Kingairloch, by whom they had Allan Cameron (1660-7 Dec 1721), 3rd of Glendessary and Acarhm[1] who married Christian Cameron, daughter of Sir Ewen Cameron of Lochiel, 28 Dec 1699[2]
  2. (married 26 Jan 1680) Marjory/Marjorie Campbell, sister of Alexander Campbell of Lochnell, by whom they had Archibald Cameron (aft.1679-1719), 1st of Dungallon,[1] reported as the only son of John Cameron, 2nd of Glendessary by his second marriage[2]

Additional children from the Red Books of Scotland:[2]

  1. Alexander Cameron, still living in 1708
  2. Marjory (Cameron) MacDonald, who married John MacDonald of Sandaig

He died in 1695,[2] and his probate records are dated 1697.[3]

Research Notes

  • Red Books of Scotland has an index on the surname Cameron of Glendessary (Vol. 2), and also Cameron of Dungallon, but that has not yet been accessed.
  • Death location is based upon the filed records cited: National Records of Scotland, Argyll Commissary Court, Inventory of John Cameron of Glendessary in Morven parish of Killantoig.

First Wife Janet Maclean; second wife, Marjorie Campbell.

  • This is a conflation with a different John Cameron who married Cathrine Nckeller:

Johne Archibald Camrone 2nd Lord of Glendessary Dungallon married Cathrine Nckeller 4 Feb 1660 in Inveraray and Glenaray, Argyll, Scotland First Wife Janet Maclean third Marjorie Campbell. Name: John Cameron Gender: Male Marriage Date: 04 Feb 1660 Marriage Place: Inveraray and Glenaray, Argyll, Scotland Spouse: Kathrine Nckeller FHL Film Number: 1041008 Save Name: Heugh Camerone Gender: Male Baptism Date: 19 Mar 1671 Baptism Place: Inveraray and Glenaray ,Argyll, Scotland Father: Johne Camerone Mother: Katherine Nckeller

  • The below described son was not John Cameron, 2nd of Glendessary Dungallon's son, but a different John Cameron, husband of Cathrine Nckeller's:

Johne Archibald Camrone 2nd Lord of Glendessary Dungallon married Cathrine Nckeller 4 Feb 1660 in Inveraray and Glenaray, Argyll, Scotland Name: John Cameron Gender: Male Marriage Date: 04 Feb 1660 Marriage Place: Inveraray and Glenaray, Argyll, Scotland Spouse: Kathrine Nckeller FHL Film Number: 1041008 Save Name: Heugh Camerone Gender: Male Baptism Date: 19 Mar 1671 Baptism Place: Inveraray and Glenaray ,Argyll, Scotland Father: Johne Camerone Mother: Katherine Nckeller

  • The previous death information was conflated with the estate inventory and cure dates. Though the documentation is copied from a source, it is able to be reproduced in the images described in the Red Book of Scotland,[4] and also attached at: 1697 Cameron, John (Wills and testaments Reference CC2/5/4. • The John Cameron who married Kathrine Nckeller (who also has a duplicate) is a different John Cameron (profile to be built). The John (Cameron) Cameron IInd of Glendessary (bef.1646-abt.1695) of this present profile only had two marriages, which are described with cited sources on the profile to be unduplicated.
  • None of the source citations show a middle name of Archibald, nor the spelling Johne.
  • Citations unable to be reproduced and also without clarity on identifying the correct John Cameron (note that above, one or two FHL Film Numbers may lead to a direct citation, but need examination to determine if they square with the Red Book of Scotland, which is considered seminal genealogy on the correct identification of John Cameron 2nd of Glendessary (see also profile to be de-duplicated: John (Cameron) Cameron IInd of Glendessary (bef.1646-abt.1695) for additional source citations:

Cameron-11982 and Cameron-7347 appear to represent the same person because: this John Cameron was conflated with a John Cameron who married Cathrine Nckeller. The corrected John Cameron of Glendessary is sufficiently described in accepted full citations on the profile that should be main, including only two marriages, neither of which were Chatrine Nckeller.

Please let me know if you have any questions about completing this merge. Thank you!

Pending "brother," who is actually the same person, to be merged. There is no evidence of a Johne Archibald Cameron as an additional brother:

Johne Archibald Cameron (abt.1638-1697)

The marriage to Kathrine (Nckeller) Cameron (circa 1634-aft.1661) has been removed; apparently, she married a different John Cameron.
