Biography

Charles Joseph Camidge was born on the 26th of February 1801 in York, Yorkshire, England, and he was christened there, in Saint Michael le Belfrey's, about 7 months later on the 9th of September 1801. Charles was the youngest son and child of Matthew Camidge, a Musician who was also from York, and Mary (Shaw) Camidge.[1]

Charles was the fourth of four children born to his parents Matthew and Mary. Charles' three older siblings were John, Emily, and Matthew.

1. John Camidge was born on the 11th of August 1790 in York, and he was christened there, in Saint Mary's, on Castlegate, about a month later on the 14th of September.[2]
2. Emily Camidge was born on the 19th of September 1793 in York, and she was christened there, in Saint Mary's, on the same day.[3]
3. Matthew Camidge was born on the 25th of February 1795 in York, and he was christened there, in Saint Michael le Belfrey's, over a year later on the 18th of May 1796.[4]

From 1801 until at least 1824 Charles, with his parents and siblings, lived in York, and during that time they lived in the parish of Saint Michael le Belfrey's.

In 1828 when Charles was about 27 years old he married Charlotte Hustwick on the 3rd of July 1828 in Holy Trinity, in Hull, in the East Riding of Yorkshire.[5]

Charles and Charlotte had at least two children together, Charles Edward, and William Henry.

1. Charles Edward Camidge was born in 1837 in Nether Poppleton, in York, and he was christened there on the 31st of October 1837.[6]
2. William Henry Camidge was born in 1842 in Nether Poppleton, and he was christened there on the 28th of April 1842.[7]

In 1841 Charles was about 40 years old, and he was living in Nether Poppleton with his wife Charlotte who was about 30 years old, and their three year old son Charles. Charles and his family were also living with an Edward Lloyd, an Ann Marsden, a Rachael Gray, a Mary Gale, and a William Brown.[8]

In 1851 Charles was 50 years old, and he was living Nether Poppleton, where he worked as its Vicar, with his wife Charlotte who was 40 years old, and their 13 year old son Charles.
