Biography

ISRAEL CAMP, the ancestor of the Camp family in Hanover was born in Milford, Conn. in 1756. When about a year old his father removed to Washington, Conn. About February 1, 1776, he volunteers for two months and after his return home he enlisted for seven months with Captain Couch, joined the regiment of Col. Heman Swift, served near Whithall NY, and also served in the years 1778, 1779 and 1780 more or less. He married Bettie Hurlbutt, at Washington, Conn., and came to Hanover about 1784. He was a farmer, and lived and died on the farm now owned by Charles H. Hurlbutt, dying April 24, 1840. His wife died October 29, 1834. He had thirteen children, seven of whom died unmarried.
