Bernardo Campagna is born around 1743 in Corleone, the son of Pietro Campagna and Giovanna Sangiorgi.
Bernardo marries Orsola Grizzaffi on 16 June 1771. Pietro has died by this time, and Giovanna is living.[1]
Bernardo and Orsola have at least fourteen children: Maria (c. 1774), Pietro (1776), two daughters named Giovanna (1778 and 1779), Antonia (1782), Antonino (1783), Serafina (c. 1786), Gioachina (1787), Francesco Paolo (1789), Anna (1791), Providenza Maria (1793), Paolo (1796), Andrea (1800), and Stefania (1801).
Maria, who dies as Sister Fara, is born around 1774, based on her reported age at death.
Pietro is born and baptized 29 January 1776, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Maestro Giovanni and Caterina Triolo, a married couple.[2]
The first daughter named Giovanna is born and baptized 29 October 1778. Her godparents are Gioachino Gennusa and Giovanna, his wife.[3] She is presumed to have died before her sister is born the following year.
The second daughter named Giovanna is born and baptized 27 November 1779. Her godparents are Maestro Matteo and Vincenza Marsalona.[4]
Antonia is born and baptized 11 February 1782. Her baptismal record leaves a blank where her mother's surname should be, and calls her father "Grizaffi." (There is no couple by these names, living in Corleone at this time.) Antonia's godparents are Liborio and Rosa Guagliardo, a married couple.[5]
Antonino is born 6 May 1783 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Don Rosario and Donna Vittoria Garlano, a married couple.[6]
Serafina is born around 1786, based on her reported age at death.
Gioachina is born and baptized 21 January 1787. Her godparents are Maestro Bartolomeo and Cira Cortimiglia, a married couple.[7]
Francesco Paolo is born 13 May 1789 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Gioachino Giaconia, from Mistretta, also known as Santino, represented by Don Michaele Sabbatino, and Donna Ninfa Merlo, from Palermo, wife of Don Francesco Paolo, and represented in person by Donna Anna Sabbatino.[8]
Anna, who is later known as Sister Orsola, is born and baptized 26 April 1791. Her godparents are Don Ignacio Merlo and Donna Giuseppa de Luca, a married couple from Palermo.[9]
Providenza Maria is born and baptized 6 November 1793. Her godparents are Maestro Matteo and Serafina Inserra, brother and sister, wife of Maestro Saverio de Luca.
Paolo is born and baptized 18 November 1796. His godparents are Don Giuseppe di Salvo of Palermo, virtually represented by the Notary Pietro Leonardo of the same city, and represented in person by Giuseppe Grimaldi, and Cira Grimaldi, wife of Giuseppe.
Andrea, who dies as Brother Giovanni, is born and baptized 3 January 1800. His godparents are the Marquis Don Andrea and Don Rosa Sarzana, a married couple.
Stefania, who dies as Sister Cherubina, is born and baptized 16 December 1801. Her godparents are Don Giuseppe and Donna Stefania Sarzana, a married couple.
Pietro marries Bernarda Ridulfo on 26 April 1802.
Serafina dies, unmarried, at age 18 (b. 1786) on 25 July 1804.
Death of Orsola
Orsola dies at around age 60 (b. 1758) on 15 September 1818. Bernardo survives her.
Paolo marries at least twice, first to Domenica Quaglino, on 19 July 1819.
Death of Bernardo
Bernardo dies at age 83 (b. 1743) on 21 June 1826. The record of his death calls his mother "Marianna."[10]
Pietro dies at age 56 on 8 February 1832. His wife survives him.
Paolo marries for the second time, to Gaetana Miata, on 15 October 1834.
Paolo dies at age 55 (he is almost 56) on 6 November 1852. Gaetana survives him.
Four of Bernardo's children are members of monastic orders when they die:
Sister Fara Campagna dies at age 89 (b. 1774) on 26 June 1863. She is known in secular life as Maria, a converted nun in the monastery of San Salvatore.
Brother Giovanni Campagna, lay professor in the order of Saint Augustine, and known in secular life as Andrea, dies on 11 May 1873 at the age of 73 (b. 1800).
Sister Orsola Campagna, a converted nun in the Monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene. dies at age 86 (b. 1791) on 21 May 1877, having taken her mother's name when she entered monastic life. She is known in secular life as Anna.
Sister Cherubina, a professed nun born Stefania Campagna, dies at age 89 (b. 1801) in the Most Sainted Salvatore monastery, on 15 April 1890.
