Research Notes

  • Clan MacFarlane also notices a lady named Elspeth [6] said to have married Alasdair Og McIain MacDonald. She is not noted by the family historian and may be doubted.
  • Note on geography: The seat of the Campbells of Lochnell is not clearly identified in source material. It was believed to have been on the south bank of Loch Nell near Oban. Certainly the lands of Torr-an-truic were within the estate boudaries. Thus within the Parish of Kilmore and Kilbride.
  • Anne Campbell was the daughter of Sir Colin Campbell, 8th of Ardkinglas and Mary Sempill. (I will refer to her as Anne Sempill Campbell.) She married Hector Macneil of Taynish, son of Hector Macneil of Taynish and Isabella Campbell.
  • Colin Campbell, 5th of Lochnell was the son of John Campbell, 4th of Lochnell and Anne Campbell. He married Anne Campbell, daughter of Sir Colin Campbell, 8th of Ardkinglas and Mary Sempill, before 8 May 1650.

According to the bio, the parents to whom she is attached are the parents of her mother who is also named Anne Campbell. It appears that this profile is a conflation of the two. I have yet to examine this in detail, but at first glance it appears the mother was married to Colin Campbell and their daughter married to John Stewart.

I added the mother and cleaned up the profile a bit. It probably deserves some more TLC.
