Matthew was born about 1786. He was the son of James Campbell and Jane Sample. In 1810 he married Nancy Summers. He and Nancy eventually moved to Monroe County, KY where he passed away about 1851. He is buried in the Fountain Run Cemetery in Monroe County, Kentucky.
