Thomas Hugh Campbell was born in 1853 in New Zealand, his father, Matthew, was 37 and his mother, Ann, was 34. He married Emily Jane Guinness on 23 December 1896 in Timaru, Canterbury. They had one child during their marriage. He died on 6 June 1937 in Auckland at the age of 84, and was buried there.

They had one daughter.
He passed away in 1937.[2]
