Biography

I see no documentation that shows that Martha's parents were John Campbell and Grace Hay. This profile references "Historical sketches" by Pilcher which have been shown to be wrong. Pilcher states quite clearly at one point in her book that her information on those earlier (likely fictitious generations going back to Inverary) were taken by her from an elderly relation who thought she remembered that information. Pilcher had not intended to publish her book and it might have been better had she not, since the misinformation has misled so many and God knows how many family histories have now been published giving her bogus material as their source.

Historical sketches of the Campbell . . . The descendants of Duncan Campbell and Mary McCoy, his wife lists Martha Campbell as daughter of Patrick Campbell and Delilah Thompson. Not much information was provided on the Martha Campbell line that married Thomas Edmondson, a generation was omitted. Making it easy for the notes to be confused and mixed up when writing the book.

However in the book William Edmondson 1734-1822 children and grandchildren is correct after him.

On a Sons of American Revolution application by her 2X great grandson it gives Captain Wm Edmondson(sp)'s parents as Martha Campbell and Thomas Edmondson. His son William Campbell Edmondson, named his daughter Martha Edmondson named after Martha Campbell.
