John Campbell, born in 1693, in Coleraine, Ulster, Ireland was the son of Robert Campbell Sr (abt.1678-abt.1768) and his wife Margaret (Trotter) Campbell (abt.1675-abt.1710). John married Elizabeth Walker, daughter of John Walker and Katherine Rutherford.

John Campbell was born about 1700; married, in 1721, Elizabeth Walker, daughter of John Walker, of Wigton, Scotland, who had removed to Newry, Carlingford Bay, County Dovvn, Ireland, long before the date
of the marriage. In May, 1728 to 1730. the Walker family, with John Campbell and wife, sailed from Strangford Bay, on the east coast, in a vessel commanded by Capt. Richard Walker, landed in Maryland,
August 2d, and transported their families to Nottingham, Chester County, Pennsylvania."
"In a few years John Campbell and wife, with his brother-in-law, John Walker (born in 1705; married in 1734), and wife, Ann Houston. moved to near Beverly's Mill Place," where Mr. Campbell and wife lived until death."

20 May 1755: John Campbell and Elizabeth his wife to Joseph Culton, 400 acres on the North side of Catheys River in the Sinking Spring branch at the head of Little(?) Run. Granted by patent to said John Campbell 12 Jan 1746. [4]
May 1756: Joseph Culton and Marcy his wife to John Campbell 400 acres on the north side of Catheys River on the Sinking Spring Branch at the head of Littles Run. Was granted by patent 12 Jan 1746. [5] Note: this is the same 400 acres John sold to Joseph the year before.
18 Aug 1767: John Campbell, Sr and Elizabeth his wife to Robert Campbell his son, 200 acres on Sinking Spring a branch of the Middle River of the Shanando, being part of 400 acres granted to said John Campbell made 7 Jun 1746. Corner to John Campbell Jr. [6]
17 Nov 1767: John Campbell and Elizabeth his wife to John McCoy, 130 acres being part of 320 acres first granted to John & James McCoy by patent and afterwards conveyed by said John McCoy to the said John Campbell by deed of Lease & Release 18 & 19 Aug 1766. [7]
24 May 1771: John Campbell and Elizabeth his wife to Thomas Frame , 288 acres on the west side of the Middle River of the Shanandore and on both sides of Walker Run ...near Robert Campbell's line. In the presence of Robert Campbell, John Campbell, Andrew McClure. [8]
19 Mar 1771: Thomas Frame to John Campbell, 220 acres more or less in Beverly Manor which was conveyed to Thomas Frame by James Frame by deeds of Lease and Release bearing the date 17 & 18 Aug 1768. [9]
18 May 1777: John Campbell and Elizabeth his wife to Hugh Johnston, 220 acres more or less in Beverly Manor which was conveyed to said John Campbell by Thomas Frame by deed of Lease & Release bearing the date 19 & 20 Mar 1766. Corner to the Christians land in a line of land belonging to one Lusk to his corner, to John Glassas corner, McCorkles corner [10]

His purported father Robert Campbell Sr (abt.1678-abt.1768) was not the Duke of Argyll. No definite connection between him and the Argyll chiefs has been made.[11]
