Hugh Archibald Campbell was born 10 Aug 1853 in Prince Edward Island. [1] He worked near Chatham, Ontario at first. He became a tailor and first plied his trade in Summerside, then Graham Road. In 1876 he began his business in Clifton. [2] Barbara MacKay and Archibald Campbell were married 22 Jan 1879 in Cadman's Corner, Botsford, New Brunswick. The 1881 census of Lot 21, PEI shows him with two young apprentices, Angus and Archibald Johnstone, orphan sons of William Johnstone who died at sea in 1877 and his wife Catherine, also deceased. [3]
They continued to live in Clifton, Queens, Prince Edward Island where Archibald was a tailor. [4] He was described as "a thorough master of his business and takes pride in turning out nothing but absolutely perfect work." [5] Archibald was appointed Postmaster for New London 1 May 1899. He continued in that office until 3 Oct 1912 when he was dismissed for political partisanship. [6]
In 1911, one servant, Spurgeon Atkins, lived in their home. [7] Archibald died before November 1925 and was buried in New London Cemetery. [8][9]
