p. 25: John B. Campbell's name appears on a receipt roll for commutation of rations while on furlough, received from Major R.V. Bonneau, A. C. S., CSA at Mobile, Alabama. His name appears on Muster Rolls to 30 June 1862, July and August 1862. He was captured at Lavergne, Tennessee 07 October 1862 and paroled 09 October 1862. (Dept. of the Cumberland, Reg. No. 1, p6, Hd Qtrs Prov. Mar Gen, Nashville, TN.....). His name also appears on a list of prisoners paroled and sent beyond the lines by Brig. Gen. Negley, Commanding Post Nashville, dated 20 November 1862. His name appears on Muster Rolls for January - August 1862. His name appears on the Company Muster Roll for January and February 1864and a Receipt Roll for clothing for the 2nd quarter 1864. His card number for the 32nd AL Infantry, Co. F were 44650931, 44651047, 44651140, 44651230, 44651316, 44651396,44651470, 44651536, 44339324, 46526311, and 5145105. The regiment met severe losses at Murfreeboro, Tennessee. It was sent to the relief of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and did valiant work in the trenches at Jackson, Mississippi, where the unit repulsed an attack on the enemy without loss. The unit rejoined the Army of Tennessee and at Chickamauga suffered severely. John died from wounds sustained in that battle at a hospital in Dalton, GA. In Dalton, Georgia there is a Westview (West Hill) Cemetery. There are 421 unknown and four known Confederate soldiers and four unknown Federals who died in Dalton hospital of battle wounds or disease suffered in Tennessee or at Chickamauga.
