Mary was born in 1876 in Barra Glen, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Hugh Cambell and Mary MacNeil. She first married Donald MacNeil, and then in 1932, as a widow, she married Alex P. MacNeil in St. Columba Church, Iona. She died sometime before Alex in 1954, as he is described as a widower on his death registration.
