Alfred Campbell Jr was born on March 1, 1930 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana, United States. His parents were Alfred Campbell Sr (1908 - 1979) and Naomi Bragg (1910 - ).
His sister was Julia Mae Campbell (1928 - 1994).
Alfred died on October 5, 2004 in Fort Wayne aged 74.
Alfred and his family moved to Manhattan, New York in 1934. He attended the New York City High School of Industrial Art(now called the School of Art and Design) and graduated in 1949. Alfred was also a member of the National Guard. Alfred grew up in New York during the Harlem Renaissance which was his earliest artistic influence. Alfred returned to Fort Wayne in 1950, and worked for General Electric until retirement in 1981. In 1987 Alfred was nominated for the Fort Wayne Black Expo Indiana Black Achievers Award, and in 1988 named Artist of the Year by Fort Wayne black Expo. Alfred has some of his Artistic Portrayals of Black Americans displayed in the Fort Wayne Black Museum. His second love was Boxing. Alfred will forever be loved and missed by all of his family, friends, and art enthusiasts abroad.
Alfred leaves to cherish his loving memory, one son Charles Phillips of Los Angeles, CA, a son-in-law Donald Clark Sr. of Fort Wayne, one daughter Earnestine Chapman of Fort Wayne, one sister Delores Woodford of Brooklyn, New York, one brother-in-law Homer Dunbar Jr, six grandchildren Dwayne, Donald, LaSonya, Gwendolyn, and Regina Clark all of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Nephews James, Vaughn, Gary Ensley all of Fort Wayne, Richard Ensley and William Woodford Jr both of Brooklyn, NY, four nieces Patricia Ensley of Fort Wayne, Stephanie, Valeri, and Dawn Woodford of Brooklyn; and a host of great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, a dear friend Robbie Bennett of Fort Wayne, and host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Luella Dunbar Campbell, a daughter Elizabeth Louise Clark, a son Ricky Phillips, his parents Alfred and Naomi Campbell Sr, a sister Julie Ensley, and one grandson Reginald Clark.
