Biography

Jane[1][2] was born on 10 April 1743 in Orange (later Augusta) County, Virginia,[3] possibly the fourth of nine known children and the third of five daughtersf Hugh and Esther Magill Campbell.[4] : Jane (Jean) was baptised in either the Tinkling Spring or Augusta Stone Church in Augusta County, Virginia on 15 May 1743.
In 1763, when she was about twenty years old, she married John Berry in Augusta County and bore him eight known children, five sons and three daughters:
  1. Hugh Berry
  2. William Berry
  3. Sarah (Berry) Gilliland
  4. Nancy Berry
  5. John Berry
  6. Thomas Berry
  7. James Berry
  8. Jane Campbell (Berry) McFerrin
Jane died of unknown causes at the age of sixty, on 27 September 1833 in Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia,[5] and is buried in Green Spring Cemetery, Green Spring, Washington County, Virginia.[6]

Washington County was formed in 1776 from Fincastle County. Fincastle County, Virginia, was created in 1772 from Botetourt County. Botetourt County was created in 1770 from part of Augusta County. Augusta county was created in 1738 from part of Orange County.[7]
