Alexander was born in 1760.
He died in 1824.
He was the son of John Campbell of Achalader and Isabella Campbell. He married, secondly, Elizabeth Anne Pemberton, daughter of Reverend Thomas Pemberton, on 3 November 1808 at Little Shelford, Cambridgeshire, England. He was also reported to have been married on 30 November 1807 and 1808.
He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.)2 He fought in the Siege of Gibraltar. He was Lieutenant-Colonel of the 4th Division. He was appointed Knight. He fought in the Battle of Talavera, where he was severely wounded. He gained the rank of Colonel in the 80th Regiment. He was created 1st Baronet Campbell, of Gartsford, co. Ross [U.K.] on 6 March 1815. On 3 July 1821 he received a new patent for his baronetcy extending the limitation to his grandson Alexander and after him to the issue male of his 2nd daughter, Isabella.
