Biography

Mary C Campbell was the daughter of Harrison M Campbell (1837-1924) and Catherine Hoot (1846-1930), born in Feb 1874 and she grew up in Mill Creek, Morgan County, Missouri. Mary married James Aaron Hodges on 25 Apr 1896 in Jasper County, Missouri.[1][2]

James worked as a farm laborer, and the family lived in Haw Creek, Morgan County. They relocated to Washington County, Oregon, around 1906, and the two younger sons were born there. James worked for a farmer in Banks, Washington County, and the Hodges lived in Forest Grove.[3][4][5][6]

James Aron Hodges and Mary C Campbell had the following children:

  • George Hodges was born in Nov 1898 in Missouri, and appeared in his parents' Haw Creek household in 1900, but he does not appear in any other records.
  • Francis Everett Hodges (1901-1979)
  • Clarice Winifred (Hodges) Scott (1902-1983)
  • Raymond Ernest Hodges (1905-1970)
  • Floyd Clinton Hodges (1907-1985)
  • Harry Kenneth Hodges (1914-1986)

James and Mary appear to have separated between 1935 and 1940, when James appeared as a divorced lodger in Vernonia, Columbia County, Oregon. James died on 8 Sep 1944 at age 71 and was buried in Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove, Washington County, Oregon.[7][8][9]

In 1940, Mary lived in Hillsdale, Multnomah County, where she was listed as “widowed.” She died in Aug 1947 and was buried in Forest View Cemetery.[10][11]
