Biography

William Candler was born January 24, 1890 in Atlanta, Georgia^[1] to father Asa G Candler and mother Lucy Elizabeth Howard.^[2]

Wm Candler was enumerated as son of the head of household in Edgewood (excl. Atlanta city), Fulton County, Georgia for the June 25, United States Census, 1900. He was noted as born June 1890 in Georgia, single and at school as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Asa G Candler, wife Lucy E Candler, son Chas H Candler, son Asa G Candler, daughter Lucy B Candler, son Walter T Candler, servant Mollie Jones and son (of servant) Harvey Jones.^[3]

Wm Candler was enumerated as son of the head of household at 61 Elizabeth Street, Atlanta Ward 9, Fulton County, Georgia for the April 19, United States Census, 1910. He was noted as born 1890 in Georgia and single as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head A G Candler and wife L E Candler.^[4]

William Candler registered for military service as recorded in this June 5, 1917 United States World War I Draft Registration Card. His birth is listed as January 24, 1890. His address was 64 Springdale Road, Atlanta, Georgia. His occupation was secretary and treasurer (Coca Cola Company). He listed a wife and child of three years that were dependent upon him. He was tall of height and of slender build with brown eyes and blonde hair as seen in this image of the original form.^[1]

William Candler was enumerated as head of the household at 64 Springdale Road, Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia for the January 3, United States Census, 1920. He was noted as born 1892 in Georgia and married, an owner and a secretary (bank) as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are wife Bessey Candler, daughter Rena E Candler, son William Candler Jr., servant Martha Smith and servant Will Murphy.^[5]

William Candler was enumerated as head of the household in 440 Springdale Road NE, Militia District 0531, DeKalb County, Georgia for the April 14, United States Census, 1930. He was noted as born 1890 in Georgia and married. He was first married at the age of twenty-three. He was an owner of a home worth $115000 and a president of a hotel as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are wife Bennie T Candler, daughter Rena E Candler and son William Candler Jr.^[6]

William owned the Biltmore Hotel in Atlanta. He was killed in an auto accident in 1936.

William Candler died in Valdosta, Lowndes County as recorded of his October 2, 1936 Georgia Death. He was a hotel manager.^[2]
