Biography

Asa G. Candler IV is not in the consecutive lineal relationship of the other Asa G. Candler's (AGC), although he is a grandson of AGC, Sr. AGC III, son of AGC, Jr, had died as an infant and AGC, Jr.'s brother, Walter, did not want the name to stop. Thus, he named his son AGC, IV, much to AGC, Jr.'s dismay. AGC, Jr.'s son, John, named his eldest son AGC, V, which restarted the direct lineage In the AGC line. AGC IV agreed not to name any of his children AGC in order to keep the lineage straight and avoid family conflict. [1]

Asa G Candler IV (Jr) was enumerated as son of the head of household at 51 Poplar Circle, Atlanta Ward 9, Fulton County, Georgia for the April 15, United States Census, 1910. He was noted as born 1910 in Georgia and single as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head W T Candler, wife Mrs. Euginia Candler, son W T Candler Jr., son Geo W Clarke and daughter Claude P Clarke.[2]

Asa G Candler was enumerated as son of the head of household at Decatur, DeKalb County, Georgia for the January 5, United States Census, 1920. He was noted as born 1910 in Georgia and single as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Walter T Candler, wife Marion Candler, son Walter T Candler, daughter Eugenia Candler, daughter Mary Candler, mother-in-law Mattie Ines Penlend, brother-in-law Harrold Penlend, brother-in-law Hoyt Penlend, servant Hettie Rogers and servant Thonice June.[3]

Asa Candler was enumerated as son of the head of household in Clifton Road, Militia District 0531, DeKalb County, Georgia for the April 25, United States Census, 1930. He was noted as born 1909 in Georgia and single as seen in an image of the original census. Also included in the household are head Walter T Candler, wife Marion P Candler, daughter Eugenia Candler, daughter Mary Candler, daughter Marian E Candler, servant Arnolia Kennedy and servant William Green.[4]

Asa Griggs Candler IV is buried at Saint Roch Cemetery #2 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA.[5]
