"The funeral of David A. Canine was held at Union Church Friday morningat 11 o'clock. The attendance was very large. Pallbearers were: B.T.Merrill; James Harding; Charles Long; Dr T.Z. Ball; C.I. Alspaugh andFrank Willoughby. By request of the deceased Elder J.H. Oliphant ofCrawfordsville preached the funeral sermon and Judge Jere West conductedthe impressive Blue Lodge ceremonies at the grave. There was a largeattendance of Masons from the Waveland Lodge; Crawfordsville and othernearby points. The other lodges to which Mr. Canine belonged wererepresented by committees. Floral offerings were made by CrawfordsvilleCommandery No 25 KT; Ben Hur POS of A; Elks; County officials;Crawfordsville business men; Eastern Star; Waveland Lodge F & AM; Knightsof Pythias and Current Events Club. Among those present fromCrawfordsville were: Judge West; Major Foote; Walter Sparks; Ed VanCamp;Jack Rowe; George S. Harney; Harry Daugherty; Hal Ensminger; DumontKennedy; Sam Symmes; Charles Joseph: Charles McCullough; Bud Barton;Taylor Thompson; George T. Griffith; George A. Cole; Chas Bettis; JohnJohnson; John Warbritton; Thomas Nolan; Chase Harding; Jesse Muriette;George Graham and Lee Warner. James Canine of Advance, George Canine ofCrawfordsville, Jas Elder of Rockville; Mrs. John Oldman and daughter ofRussellville and Elder CG Airhart and wife of Roachdale were also amongthose present. The following resolutions were prepared by a committeeappointed by Rathbone odge NO 232, K of P. "The frailty of human life,the uncertainty of human desire, the end of human destiny has again beenbrought before us.. In the midst of life, we are in death. Whereas, inHis infinite wisdom and justice, it has pleased Almighty God to removefrom our midst our friend and brother, David A .Canine, and holding himas we do in the most sincere respect and esteem, and cherishing thetenderest remembrances of him, be it 'resolved that the altar and thecharter of Rathbone Lodge No 232, K of P, be draped in mourning for 30days. Resolved, that his Lodge through our committee appointed, extendthe bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy, trusting that He who alonecan comfort, may support and sustain them in the hour of their greatbereavement, and be it further resolved that a copy of these resolutionsbe spread upon the minutes of this lodge, a copy be sent to the family ofthe deceased, and that a copy be placed for publication with the WavelandIndependent and with each of the Crawfordsville papers. Committee: TZBall; FW Kritz; Ed Benefel.
The family of David Canine wish to express their earnest appreciation forthe sympathy shown them by their neighbors and friends and by the variousfraternal orders in their hour of sorrow."
