Esther married Martin Vann Chancey in 1913 at the very young age of 14. The marriage was officiated by her uncle, Jesse N. Cannon, the county judge.

By 1928, Chancey and she divorced. The two had at least one child together, according to his WWI draft registration.

She married a second time in 1933 to C.G Moxley. By 1935, she was listed as a widow and was living with her elderly parents and four children, aged 13 to 22 outside Live Oak, Florida. No husband is listed in the household.

At some point, Esther married a fellow named Collins. No public records have been found as yet.

The maternal side of my family was big on family reunions. Almost always, these were held in the home of an aunt or uncle, often in Suwannee County, the site of the original Whitfield and Cannon pioneers. Aunt Esther was a celebrity of sorts at these reunions. It was her egg custard pie. A week before, the day of, Mom would entice my brother and I with the promise of Aunt Esther's egg custard pie. At the reunion, the promise was repeated. And then Aunt Esther would arrive, the celebrity, holding the magical egg custard pie with both hands, smiling big, a silver tooth gleaming. We (my brother and my two cousins) never told Mom, never told Aunt Louise or Aunt Esther or anyone other than ourselves the truth. We did not like Aunt Esther's egg custard pie. We would each eat a tiny slice. But it was not chocolate or the least bit sweet. And our child tongues rejected the blandness. But we kept our courtesy toward our elder.

Aunt Esther was invincible. So invincible that she survived a lightning strike. Not just once - remarkable enough - but twice! Details are sketchy but the bolts struck on her property, where she was out doing something.
