Descendant of William Cantrell, the first Cantrell in North America. William arrived from England with Captain John Smith in Jamestown, Virginia on April 20, 1607

Biography

Elijah was born about 1788 and is the son of Jacob Cantrell. He passed away after the 1860 census, probably in Marion County, Alabama. The 1870 census for Elijah and Rebecca has not yet been found, however Rebecca is listed as a widow in 1880.

Elijah married Rebecca Ann Little on 31 October 1817 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.[citation needed]

In 1850 Elijah and Rebecca were living in Marion County, Alabama. In their household are:

  • Elizah Cantrell, M, 62, North Carolina
  • Rebecca Cantrell, F, 52, South Carolina
  • Aaron Cantrell, M, 21, Georgia
  • John B Cantrell, M, 20, Georgia
  • Francis M Cantrell, M, 18, Georgia
  • Ruben Cantrell, M, 16, Georgia
  • Sarah Cantrell, F, 12, Georgia
  • Jacob Cantrell, M, 11, Georgia
  • Anthony Cantrell, M, 9, Georgia[1]
Living next door are two other Cantrell's, Samuel age 25 and his wife Elizabeth and L. D. Cantrell age 27 and his wife Elizabeth. They are probably sons of Elijah and Rebecca. On the previous page of this census are listed John Arnold and his wife Idumea and their two sons George and Asberry. Idumea Is a daughter of Elijah and Rebecca.

In 1860 Elijah and Rebecca are still living in Marion County, Alabama. In their household are sons John, Jacob and Anselm. On the same page are listed sons Samuel and Aaron with their families and daughter Idumea with her husband John Arnold.[2]

Elijah was born in 1788. He passed away in 1873.
