Descendant of William Cantrell, the first Cantrell in North America. William arrived with Captain John Smith in Jamestown, Virginia on April 20, 1607.
Joseph was born in March 1807 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. He was the son of Abraham Cantrell and Sarah Durham. He passed away in February 1877 in DeKalb County, Tennessee.
Joseph married Cynthia McDowell about 1826 in Tennessee.
In 1850 Joseph and Cynthia were living in DeKalb County, Tennessee. In their household are children: Lafayette, Abraham, Martha, Sarah, William, James, Susan, and Celetta Cantrell.[1]
