Biography

Patrick Canty was born in ByTown, Canada West about 1850. He was the son of John Canty and Margaret Kinsella.

The funeral was held this morning of Patrick Canty, 648 King Edward avenue, who was, tor over 25 years, a clerk in the Public Works Department, having been superannuated only a little over a year ago. Not only has he been prominent as a civil servant, but in his earlier days, he was a fine athlete and won many trophies for track and field athletics. The funeral proceeded from the house to the church, service commencing at 8 o'clock. Father Cornell chanted requiem mass. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Catherine Murphy, 548 King Edward avenue; one nephew, J. J. Murphy, of the Post Office Department; three nieces, Mrs. H. F. Lambert, Sayre. Pennsylvania; Mrs. E. K. Fyfe, Irvine Avenue; Miss K. F. Murphy, at home. Floral offerings were sent by the Carnegie Library staff, officers and men of No. 3 Fire Station, and Local Council of the Knights of Columbus. A platoon of men under Captain Ruel, from No. 3 Fire Station, walked in the funeral procession. Among those present at the funeral were; Hon. Charles Murphy, Messrs. Harold Fisher, L. V. Sherwood. Stanley M. Clark, James A. Robertson, J. J. Murphy, J. P. Ebbs, Simon Ebbs, M. Tobin, Allan Keefer, E. P. Murphy, Edward Murphy, L. R. O'Connell, James Murphy, John Terrence. T. J. Ryan, T. J. Nolan, P. H. Murphy, T. L. St. Julien, Dr. William Wood, Dr. Robert Law, William Doran. M. Guillet, Louis Guillet, M. O'Meara, W. Larocque, Philip Dubois, J. R. O'Dougherty, J. Shields, Allen Fowler, John Graham, Charles Wheeler, J. Reynolds, Lindsay McCullough, John H. Bray, W. J. Preston, John Heney, Louis Kehoe. Tom Maloney, Tom J. Ryan. E. Lappe, James F. Driscoll and others.[1]
