Januario Cantú Garza nació el 18 de septiembre de 1834 en Hidalgo, Nuevo León, México y fue bautizado el 22 del mismo mes en la parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Salinas Victoria, Nuevo León, México; sus padres fueron Francisco Cantú y Concepción de la Garza.[1][2]
Era agricultor; contrajo matrimonio con Andrea García.
Falleció de pulmonía el 20 de septiembre de 1893 en Los Herreras, Nuevo León, México.[3][4]
