Biography

Joseph Canuel was born in 1862 in Quebec, Canada. He married Anna LaRouche in about 1886. Sometime before 1900 Joseph and his wife adopted their niece, brother Jean Baptiste's daughter Anna Jeanne (Canuel) Proulx (1887-1977). They had no other children.

Census records for 1900 show Anna as the adopted daughter and [1] 1910 records show Joseph and Annie Canuel were married for 24 years. [2]

Joseph was an esteemed contractor in Fall River MA. An article from Newspapers.com (requires subscription) reports on a bad fall he had while working in a church. It was thought he had broken his back and he was expected to die. " "Canuel has the reputation of being an intelligent and competent workman, esteemed not only by his employees, but by a large circle of friends in the city." He survived the accident. [3]

His wife Anna died in 1917. Joseph remarried Alice Bard when he was 56, on January 14, 1919 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Alice was 49. ^[1] [4]
