Biography

Wilson was born in 1847 in Driffield, Yorkshire. [1] In 1851 he lived in Langtoft with his mother, Harriet Cape, John B. Kirby, an innkeeper, and Kirby's wife Elizabeth Cape. Since Wilson is described in the census as a grandson, Elizabeth may be Harriet's mother. [2][3] Richard Woodmansey, whom his mother married after the birth of Wilson and his brother Thomas, may be their father but is more likely their stepfather. In the 1861 England and Wales Census, Thomas is described as Richard Woodmansey's stepson.[4]
