Nambour Resident's Death at 92 MR. J. M. CAPPER The death occurred at Nambour on Tuesday of Mr. John Mills Capper at the age of 92 years. The deceased once lived In a cottage on the present site of Lennons Hotel, Brisbane.
Mr. Capper was born where Charlotte Street now is. In his childhood days he gathered chips from trees cut down in Queen Street, along which he saw bullock and horse teams pass daily. In those days there was a creek on the site of the present City Hall and a slip-rail fence at Roma Street through which, the aborigines were chased out of town at sundown. Mr. Capper joined the Police Force and served in Cooktown, on the Palmer goldfield. and at Barcaldlne. Resigning from the Police Force he returned to Brisbane and then moved to Nambour. Despite his age, the late Mr. Capper was active almost until his death.[1]
