Constantin was born in 1873. He passed away in 1950. He was a Greek mathematician who spent most of his professional career in Germany. He made significant contributions to real and complex analysis, the calculus of variations (in which he was much influenced by both Hilbert and Klein), and measure theory. He also created an axiomatic formulation of thermodynamics.
He was remembered by his colleagues as a respectable and cultured man.
