There must have been some dispute about property and/or the terms of Thomas Carbutt's Will, because another Death Notice was filed in 1911. Annotations to this document give dates of death as follows: Hugh 19.8.1907; Thomas Munroe 22.6.1900 and Charles 14.5.1913. Catherine has married Stephen Pike, who was the original Executor. [1]
From a source of questionable reliability: Thomas Carbutt was a gentleman Squire in the Leeds district of Yorkshire when he decided to acquire land in South Africa. Thomas was consumptive and it was hoped that the sunny climate here would help him. His sons were brought up as Victorian gentlemen and sent on the grand tour to Germany to study art and music.
