Biography

Charles is the son of Stephen Card and Catherine Oldham. He was born 09 NOV 1809[1] in Stockholm, New Jersey. He works as a Forgeman for Martin J. Ryerson about 1830. He died 11 OCT 1886 and is buried at Oak Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery, Oak Ridge, New Jersey, at the back of the church.[2]

Charles O. Card was born in 1809 in Stockholm, NJ. His wife Catherine M. Kimble was the daughter of Abraham Kimble, one of the earliest settlers of the Paradise section of West Milford, NJ. Charles and Catherine Card lived on Mathews Lane in Pequannock (now Riverdale). Charles, according to Peter Townsend’s history, was a forgeman, coal passer and basket maker.

The local historian continued on to say that Charles and Catherine had at least 16 children. They were Mary Elizabeth Card who married George Zabriskie, Harriet Card who married a Demarest, Ann Elizabeth Card who married Peter W. Mabey; Emily Francs Card who married Aaron Mathews; Ellen Card who died at a young age; Sarah Catherine Card who married James Phillips; Charles Card who married Sarah Elizabeth Romain; Mortimer who married Lucy Ann Condon; Stephen Card who married Catherine Peer; Wellington who married Charity Alward; Elezer Card who married Julia A. Davenport; Silas Card who married Mary Elizabeth Riker; John Martin Card who married Abigail Ann Johnson; Daniel Card who died young; Ammassa Card who married Josephine Boyd and Aaron W. Card who married Martha or Ellen Weaver and Mortimer Card who arrived in Pompton Plains in 1869.[3]
