Biography

Giovanna Cardella is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Pasquale Cardella and Laura di Giorgio. I estimate Giovanna is born around 1724, twenty years before she marries.

Giovanna marries Martino Grizzaffi, her stepbrother, on 10 February 1744. The same day, Martino's father remarries, to Laura Cavallo, who is also a widow. Giovanna's father has died by this time and her mother is living.

Giovanna and Martino have at least three children: Mattea (c. 1745), Mercuria (c. 1755), and Bernarda (c. 1756).

I have estimated Mattea is born around 1745, twenty years before she marries.

Mercuria is born around 1767, based on her reported age at death, making her only eight years old when she marries. I estimate she is 20 (b. 1755) when she marries for the first time.

Mattea marries Filippo Marino on 27 April 1767.

Mercuria marries at least twice, first to Lorenzo Mancuso, a widower, on 7 January 1775. Bernarda marries Antonino Paternostro on 9 January 1780.

Martino dies at age 65 (b. 1724) on 13 May 1789. Giovanna survives him.^[1]

Mercuria marries for the second time on 25 October 1802, to Giuseppe Musso, who is also a widower. By this time, Martino and Giovanna have both died. This record calls her mother Giovanna Giorgio.

Mercuria dies at age 60 (b. 1767) on 21 July 1827. Her second husband has predeceased her.

Bernarda dies at age 80 (b. 1756) on 16 November 1836.
