Although some census records state that Henry was born in Florida, his birth to Henry Carey and Mary Sands Carey was registered as 03 Sep 1865 at Rock Sound (New Portsmouth, The Bahamas).[1]
According to the US Census of 1920, Henry and his family came to the US in 1866
In 1885, 19 year old Henry worked as a seaman and lived on Elizabeth Street with his parents and siblings (Marion Carey b 1868, Michael Carey, b Florida 1871, Thomas Carey b. Florida 1872 ) Of special interest is that there lived with them, Henry's 76 year old grandfather
Michael Carey, a widower who was b about 1809 in The Bahamas.
Residence 1920: At Rear 611 Elizabeth Street (The numbering system has been changed since 1885) , Henry and his mother Mary E, now a widow, lived with Henry's sister Myrtle Diaz (b. 1885, Florida), his brother-in-law Aaron Diaz (b 1885 to" Spanish" (Cuban?)) parents and their children.

Henry William Carey died "suddenly" at his home in Bakers Lane at 6:45 in the morning of Apr. 23, 1930 in Key West, Monroe County. He was buried in the Key West Cemetery , Key West, Monroe County, Florida, USA.[4]
His obituary, in the Key West newspaper, informs us that he was a member of the Congregational church. Also, he was active in the order of Red Men and they were expected to attend his funeral as a group.
