Biography

There were two distinct men by the name of William H. Carey. Both were born on Eleuthera in 1842 and both died in Key West. The other man is Carey-2507

This record is for the W.H. Carey who married Adela Ann or Adella Anne MORTON (she was b. 10 Dec 1848 Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera, m. Eleuthera, d. 17 Feb 1901) According to the Bahamas DNA website, the W H Carey who married Adilla Morton was born 16 Dec 1842 Eleuthera and passed away on 23 Oct 1926 Key West, FL.

The Bahamas DNA website also informs us that the two men were related. As per the DNA site, the descendants of the two lines share a Y chromosome match, meaning that they belong to the same direct paternal line and share a patriarch with the CAREY surname who likely lived in the Bahamas.

According to the Dolly Mae records, William was married twice. He and his first wife, Adela Ann Morton, had a daughter, Susan. His second wife was Adeline Morton with whom he had two sons - James Cornelius and Horatio. [1]

W.H. Carey passed away in 1826 in Key West and was buried in an unmarked grave in the Key West cemetery.[2]

A Find A Grave Photo Requset returned these statements by email on May 24, 2017:

Cemetery office confirmed that this burial is "unmarked" and "The office has a record of this person but no known location"[3]
