John Saunders married Mary Eliza Carey on 23 Aug 1888. John's surname was misspelled as Sanders on the license.[2] She and John had 5 children by 1900, but only two were still alive at the time of the 1900 census: Benjamin and Mary E. The census stated she immigrated to Key West in 1884.[3]
By 1920, Mary was widowed and living with relatives in Key West, Florida.[4] The household included:
