The US Census shows Matilda Spencer, age 57 as a white woman who was born in the Bahamas to Bahamian parents abt 1828 Matilda was widowed and living in Key West in 1885 . She was head of a household that included:

John A Spencer 23 (son)
William Carey 41 (boarder)
James Carey 24 (boarder)
Benjamin Carey 19 (boarder)
Although William and his family are listed as boarders, its a safe bet that William was Matilda's nephew or cousin.
