Biography

Helen Carey was born in 1926. She passed away in 2001.

Funeral services for Mrs. Harold Sylvester, the former Helen Carey, 75, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in St. Landry Mausoleum.

The Rev. Jeff DeBlanc will conduct the services.

Mrs. Sylvester, a resident of Opelousas, died at 5:57 p.m. Monday, September 17, 2001, in Eunice Medical Center. She was a retired Deputy Clerk of Court for St. Landry Parish. Mrs. Sylvester was a member of the Ladies Altar Society, Elks Auxiliary and Women's Auxiliary of Hope Hook & Ladder Co. Fire Department.

Survivors include: three sons, Robert J. Sylvester and his wife Kathy of Port Barre, James (Kenny) Kenneth Sylvester of Eunice and Ronald (Ronnie) Dean Sylvester of Opelousas; four daughters, Sandra Doga and her husband Donald of Opelousas, Debbie Richard and Gary Fontenot of Eunice, Theresa (Terry) Lynn Anderson and her husband Bruce of Krotz Springs, and Alice Pastorick and her husband Dale of Eunice; 19 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sylvester was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sylvester; a grandson, Blake Sylvester; her parents, William Henry Carey and the former Nanny Perlie Poole; and a sister, Ruby C. Bailey.

Visiting hours will be observed from 2 p.m. today until time of services on Wednesday. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.
