William's birth was registered in 1876 in the Leith South district.^[1]

In 1881 William (age about 4) was living at 31 Queen Street, South Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland.^[2]

In the 1891 census William (age 15), Grocer (Apprentice), was the son of John Carfra at 31 Queen St, Leith, Leith South, Midlothian.^[3]

He came to Canada aboard the SS Pretorian of the Allan Line Steamship Co., departing Glasgow on May 16, 1908, and arriving at Quebec City on May 26, 1908. With him were his wife, Helen, his children Ann and Helen, and his mother-in-law, Emma Cropper. They travelled in the 2nd Cabin.

Immigration: 26 May 1908 in Quebec City, QC aboard the SS Pretorian.^[4]

In 1911 William (age about 34) was living in Saskatoon, SK. ^[5]

Probate was granted on 19 December 1945 in Court of Queen's Bench for Saskatchewan. Applicant: John Macklem.
