Walter married Jane Gibbon by license dated 1607 at Hornsea, Yorkshire.[2][4][5] Jane was the daughter of Peter Gibbon and his wife, Margery.[2][4] They had three sons and one daughter:
Edward, Gent., baptized at Beeford 20 October 1610,[4] died before 27 November 1678 in England, married Ellen Newton and immigrated to New England, where they lived for 6-7 years before returning to England[2]
Thomas,[2] baptized at Beeford 14 January 1612/3, was living in 1643[4]
William,[2] probably born at Hornsea about 1617 and died in 1639[4]
Anne,[2] probably born at Hornsea about 1615 or 1619[4]
In 1608, Walter joined his mother-in-law in the administration of the estate of Jane's father Peter Gibbon. In 1620, Walter was named supervisor of the will of Jane's stepfather, William Ombler. Walter was named in his father's will dated 1620, which was not proved until 22 November 1626, three years after Walter's death.[4]
Walter died testate on 4 October 1623[4] at Hornsea Burton, Yorkshire.[2] His will dated 15 March 1622 at Hornsey Burton named: his wife Jane; sons Thomas, William, Edward, and daughter Anne; John and Elizabeth Ombler "my brother and sister in lawe"; his "mother Carleton"; brothers Thomas, George, John and brother Thomas' unnamed son; and cousin Phillipp Carleton. Robert More of Hornsey and his brother George Carleton were named as executors.[4]
On 30 September 1623, Walter changed one of the executors of his will, replacing his brother George "fearing he will not long live" with William North of Roston. Administration was granted to Robert More and William North on 22 November 1626.[4]
An Inquisition taken at York Castle on 20 July 1624 stated that Walter held property in "Hornesey Burton" and that his son, William, aged 6 years, was his son and next heir.[4]
His widow remarried to William Birkell and was still living in 1639.[2]
