Biography

Jo-Anne Susan Johnson was born 30 April 1954 in Cassiar, British Columbia. She is of Kaska, Tahltan and Irish heritage. Jo-Anne is a member of the Carlick Family and her clan is Tsesk’iye. Tilsma is her First Nations name. Her birth parents were Ethel Carlick (31 years old) and Mervyn Laronde (21 years old). Ethel had cancer and died March 15, 1955 (34 years old) in Charles Camsell Hospital, Edmonton, Alberta. As a result, Clarence Millspaugh (Ethel’s common-law husband) placed Jo-Anne with Vic and Katie Johnson in Watson Lake, Yukon, where he worked full time at the Watson Lake Service Station. In 1959, Clarence gave his consent for Vic and Katie Johnson to adopt Jo-Anne. The adoption was completed September 18, 1964. Jo-Anne graduated from Watson Lake Secondary High School in June 1972. From 1973-1976 she was a Blade/Linc Instructor in Upper Liard, Yukon. Jo-Anne graduated from the University of Alberta with a BEd degree in 1980. She worked as a Native Language teacher team teaching Kaska with fluent speaker, Clara Donnessey. In 1986, Jo-Anne became Yukon Native Language Centre Coordinator, where she worked until she retired.

Hello Jo-Anne,

In reviewing the various files for Ann Robinson, I found your profile for Anne Whitten formerly Robinson born about 1760. I believe your Ann might be the same person as the profile that I created for Ann Robinson Whitney born about 1765. I have been exploring the possibility that my Ann is my Great Grandmother X4 who had at least three children with Jacob Whitney. Those children were John, William, and Isaac. Your John Whitten born 4 Oct 1786 might be John Whitney born the same date and christened 18 Nov 1786. William might be my William (circa 1790) was christened on 29 Apr 1785. Please let me know if you are open to a dialog to determine if there is a relationship between ancestors. Thanks, Philip Whitney [email address removed]

Hi, my name is Gail. Your Sarah Campbell Green is something akin to my Sarah Ann Campbell. You might want to take a look.

Hello Jo-Anne,

Somehow my grandfather, James Ryan, got caught up in your family tree. He was born in Bohola, County Mayo, Ireland in 1900. His parents were Pat and Mary Ryan and his grandparents were William and Mary Ryan. This is according to family history and the census of Ireland for 1901. I have corrected my grandfather's info, but I do not want to mess with the incorrect ancestors that are listed by you.

Can you please respond to this message and let me know how I can proceed in correcting his ancestor information.

Thanks,

Mike Ryan [email address removed]

Hi Jo-Anne,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

People who do not want to share information should not be on the list to build one family.

I came across a question you had asked Adoption Angels regarding how to create both adoptive and biological family lines. Here is a help page with this information.

Welcome Jo-Anne!

You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members. As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.

Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.

Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.

You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: What do you do to honor the veterans in your family tree?

See you in the branches, Cindy

Hello Jo-Anne

You may be interested in our WikiTree Adoption Angels Project.

You can also use the Help menu in the upper right corner of every page to get to the G2G Forum to ask questions about how to use WikiTree in your adoption search, or find some basic adoption search help here.

By adding your branches to our shared tree, there may be an opportunity for someone to find you, AND adding your branches and working to source and confirm that information will get you closer to the end of your search.

Thanks, Cindy
